The 10th Japanese Film Festival is coming to Sydney soon!

Wednesday 29th November 2006 celebrates the 10th anniversary of the extremely popular Japanese Film Festival in Sydney, and promises to deliver the high quality slate of films you have come to expect from such a rich cinematic culture.

This year the Festival is excited to move into its new home at Greater Union George Street, as growing popularity demands a bigger venue with a more central location. Fascination for the Japanese Film Festival, known for its diverse and distinctive film line-up, has gone from strength to strength every year. For this, the 10th and arguably best line-up of films yet, be prepared for a truly wondrous gala event that rejoices in the many faces of Japan that the Japanese Film Festival pays homage to.

Opening Night (29 Nov) will feature one of many Festival highlights, the multiple-award winning film ALWAYS - Sunset on Third Street, directed by Takashi Yamazaki. Closing Night (8 Dec) will screen Forget-Me-Not, a film which has just had its world premier in Tokyo. We are honoured to have the films director, Mr Hiroshi Sugawara, and producer, Ms Kiyoko Sakuma, as special guests to talk about their outstanding new film.

New to this years festival is J-Horror Night (5 Dec), an evening showcasing two of Japans latest horror films - the eerie Ghost Train and the truly gruesome The Neighbor No. Thirteen. This year for the first time, the 5th Australia-Japan Student Film Forum (4 Dec), which in the past has screened award-winning short films like Sejong Park's Birthday Boy, will also join the festival. This free event will screen a high calibre selection of short films by recent film school graduates from Japan and Australia in a unique cross-cultural forum.

For school students, there will be a one-off daytime screening on Friday 8 December of Shinobu Yaguchi's (Water Boys) comedy Swing Girls (PG). This is an ideal opportunity for school excursions in which students and teachers can explore Japanese language and culture through film.

With families in mind, the festival will also hold Family Sunday (3 Dec), which showcases three of our family friendly titles - Glass Rabbit (PG), Boy Meets Ghost (M) and Swing Girls (PG).
